An unusual love story, Olteanu’s debut feature film presents one day that leads to the breakup of a long-married couple. Reversing old clichés, the two protagonists—Dana and her husband, Artur—acknowledge the difficulty to let one another go, in spite of the fact that they both admit that there is no love between them, but only camaraderie. Questioning the reasons why couples stay together, the film is an honest portrayal of the complex ties that keep spouses together. Monsters received twenty nominations and several prizes for the best feature film at international film festivals in Romania, Bulgaria, and India, the best screenplay at Berlin, and Herceg Novi, and for the best actress in a leading role for Judith State at Gopo Awards, Romania.
